Mission Statement:
The Real is designed to make live music more accessible by connecting musicians, venues, and music lovers so that music can become a more influential aspect of our community.
How we do this?
-
We are going to be hosting workshops with varying topics to guide aspiring musicians to have a successful music career. These include: Hands-On Performance workshops; Career Development and Artist Branding Workshops; Recording, Mixing, and Production workshops; Songwriting and Composition workshops. You don’t have to be an accepted artist of The Real to participate in these workshops, all musicians are allowed.
-
Once artist applicants are accepted as an artist of The Real, they are able to book gigs with any of the venues that we are connected to or headline any of our events such as The Real’s Jazz Night or Thursday Night Live. If they don’t see any venues that they’re interested in performing at, we will work with them to find and connect with venues for them.
-
Once artists/bands are accepted to be an artist of The Real, they will receive access to our growing list of venues that we’re connected to for artists and bands to perform at. If artists/bands don’t see any venues that they’re interested in performing at, we will work with them to find and connect with venues for them.
-
We are implementing a monthly jazz night to allow more performance and community building opportunities. The first hour will be a headlining band and the second hour will be an open jam session. Our first one is Tuesday, December 3, 2024 at 8-10pm at Bard College in the Jazz Room (N211). Doors open at 7:30pm. It’s a free event but we do have a suggested donation of $10 to pay the wonderful musicians who will be performing. RSVP Here.

Every Thursday starting on November 21st at 7pm, we host Thursday Night Live in collaboration with Bard College’s Office of Student Activities at Down The Road Cáfe. We offer Bard student musicians and bands the opportunity to headline this event and open up into a jam session at 8pm where all are allowed to participate. Down The Road Cáfe is located in Bard College’s Campus Center and has a lot of foot traffic, so we can guarantee that there will always be an audience for the performers.
